Total vehicle sales in January increased 8.04% to 54,696 units from 50,622 units recorded last year, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
Of the total, passenger vehicle sales rose 7.86% to 49,589 units, amid the rush delivery for Chinese New Year compared with 45,973 units sold in the same month last year.
Commercial vehicle sales jumped 9.86% to 5,107 units from 4,649 units a year ago, MAA said in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, vehicle production, both passenger and commercial, rose 17.51% to 60,283 units from 51,296 units registered in January 2010. Passenger vehicle production increased 19.6% to 55,217 units in January 2011 but commercial vehicle production dropped 1.13% p to 5,066 units. – Bernama
MAA said sales volume for February was expected to be lower than January 2011, amid a seasonal short working month, as many companies were closed for the Chinese New Year holiday.
