Investment climate still good [07-03-2013]

MALAYSIA'S investment climate has not been disrupted by the ongoing offensive operations by the security forces to flush out the terrorists in Lahad Datu, Semporna and surrounding areas.

Describing the situation as a temporary setback, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Sabah and Malaysia have proven track records.

"The tourism sector may be affected but the manufacturing sector has not been impacted," he told a media briefing here yesterday.

Investments will continue to flow in the medium to long term, he added.

He said companies with manufacturing facilities in Sabah have not voiced concern todate over the unrest in the state.

"That is also only at specific areas. My ministry's office in Kota Kinabalu has informed me that there has been no queries so far but I have asked them to remain alert and to keep me informed.

"Malaysia's investment climate and bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Philippines remain healthy and excellent," he told reporters after meeting officials of foreign missions and business councils.

Mustapa said the territorial intrusion by the terrorists was only a temporary issue and will be resolved in the coming days.
