The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (Mier) will review its gross domestic product (GDP) forecast for this year to take into account the bearish external developments.
Executive director Dr Zakaria Abdul Rashid said Mier would release its data on the country’s economy later this month.
He said the exports of regional countries, including Malaysia, were likely to be affected by the increasing global financial crisis.
“Domestic demand can offset this situation only at a specific level because dependence on it will result in the increase in inflation.
“Bank Negara’s new measures to curb maximum tenures for personal loans and mortgages are right and imperative at this moment to avoid inflation from skyrocketing,” he said.
