Motor vehicle sales in November declined three per cent from October to 53,365 units, due to the short working month, says the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
However, on a year-on-year basis, motor vehicle sales in November rose 10 per cent or 5,055 units from 48,310 units in the same month in 2011, contributed by sales of 46,392 units of passenger vehicles and 6,973 units of commercial vehicles, MAA said.
It said production for the month rose to 46,968 units from 35,355 units in the same month last year, with 42,934 units of passenger vehicles produced vis-a-vis 31,326 units in November last year.
It added 4,034 units of commercial vehicles were also produced in the month as compared to 4,029 units in the same month last year.
For the eleven-month period, it said motor vehicle sales rose 2.71 per cent to 567,170 from 552,159 recorded in the same period last year.
MAA said passenger vehicle sales for the period expanded to 498,723 units from 492,492 units in the same period last year, while commercial vehicle sales strengthened to 68,447 units from 59,677 units previously.
Production for the period, it said, improved to 524,467 units from 501,755 units last year, with 467,861 passenger vehicles produced during the period against 459,876 units in the same period last year.
It added 56,606 units of commercial vehicles were also produced until November, up from 501,755 units in the same period in 2011.
On the outlook, MAA said motor vehicle sales in December are expected to be slightly lower than November, with consumers preferring to wait and take delivery of 2013 production year stock.
